The other guest began coughing without covering his mouth. The patio was enclosed so whatever he was expelling was now circulating in the air. Plus he continued to cough. I fortunately had not yet ordered so I left the patio and went to the open tent, which was vacant. I would have been exposed to whatever he was expelling if I had stayed in the patio while he was having his bouts of coughing. I got out fast enough to avoid the exposure. But I could have caught something if I had been closer to him or delayed the exit.

A better appreciation of dining restrictions
As I head back to San Diego, I stopped at a motel with no microwaves. I wanted more than nutrition bars and coffee for this morning's breakfast. There is a nearby restaurant where I knew that I could order something to go. I saw that they were still allowing dining in their patio and tent. So I decided to eat there, initially in their enclosed patio. There was only 1 other person. I sat across the room from him by the door.
